About this job

Role Title: Humanitarian Aid Representative

Role Type: Contractor

Location: Remote

micro1 is engaging Humanitarian Aid Representatives to contribute their field expertise in humanitarian and civilian protection for a unique project. In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. No prior experience in AI is required — your domain knowledge is what matters. The focus of this engagement is to design, review, and refine scenarios involving civilian harm, protected persons, and the boundaries of legitimate activity, ensuring responses are grounded in International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and best practices in humanitarian action. Strong written and verbal communication skills are highly valued, as your insights and documentation will directly influence AI performance and sensitivity to complex humanitarian concerns.

Scope of Work

• Develop nuanced cases and scenarios focused on civilian protection, proportionality, and humanitarian constraints for AI model evaluation.

• Assess and grade AI-generated responses for accuracy, depth of reasoning, and sensitivity to civilian-harm considerations.

• Identify and flag instances of excessive caution or insufficient restraint in model responses, highlighting humanitarian implications.

• Document challenging or ambiguous cases from a humanitarian perspective to inform future training and refinement.

• Collaborate with project stakeholders to clarify humanitarian concepts and contribute to guidance on IHL-related reasoning.

• Maintain precise, clear, and context-rich records of findings and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in humanitarian operations, protection, or policy with organizations such as ICRC/Red Cross, UN agencies, or major NGOs.

• Strong grounding in International Humanitarian Law and civilian-protection principles.

• Experience in teaching, training, or field leadership related to humanitarian action or IHL dissemination.

• Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills, especially in crafting and reviewing complex case material.

• Proven ability to apply proportionality reasoning in conflict or protection scenarios.

• Experience documenting or reporting on edge cases or challenging humanitarian situations.

• Conflict-zone fieldwork, protection-cluster participation, or IHL-dissemination experience is highly valued.
