Do people actually get paid by Handshake AI?
Yes. Payouts go out through Stripe every Wednesday covering the prior week's work, and money typically lands in your bank within about 3 days. Stripe says Handshake makes over $15 million in payouts a week.
How much does Handshake AI pay?
As of October 2026, listings ran from up to $17 an hour for an AI evaluation specialist to up to $120–125 an hour for software engineers and other specialists. Projects pay hourly or per task on their own terms.
Why are there no tasks on Handshake AI?
Handshake says task availability hinges on its AI lab partners and can shift, and projects can pause or close on short notice. Tasks also stay locked until you finish onboarding.
Is it safe to give Handshake AI my SSN?
Fellows are US contractors, so getting paid requires an SSN or ITIN. Enter it only inside the official onboarding flow (Persona, Stripe and TaxBandit), never by email, chat or form.
Can I join Handshake AI from outside the US?
